What is STCW basic training?

STCW Basic training encompasses four courses. These courses arm you with an understanding in firefighting and use of fire fighting equipment; reacting to emergency situations and evacuation procedures; sea survival and safety at sea; and first aid knowledge

Who needs STCW basic training?
Crew working on vessels over 24m
MCA Master (Code Vessel <200) Limited and Unlimited
RYA Yachtmaster Commercial with STCW endorsement
Operators, skippers and crew of commercial vessels <24m operating overseas – often find it useful.

Are there any pre-course requirements?
No. Although you should be fit enough for the fire fighting elements and a two hour pool session. We do offer lots of tea and coffee throughout the day, to keep you going…

The basic STCW training consists of 4 elements:
Personal Survival Techniques (STCW Reg VI/1 Section A-VI/1 para 2.1.1) – 1 day
Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting (STCW Reg VI/1 Section A-VI/1 para 2.1.2) – 2 days
Elementary First Aid (STCW Reg VI/1 Section A-VI/1 para 2.1.3) – 1 day
Personal Safety & Social Responsibility (STCW Reg VI/1 Section A-VI/1 para 2.1.4) – 1 day

We combine the elements together into a 5 day course, if you’re unable to attend all 5 days please contact us as it may be possible to book each element individually.
