SeaRegs Training in Plymouth have a regular programme of courses for Skippers and Crew working on Code and other vessels, one of the latest MCA requirements under the Workboat code in addition to the one day Stability course is the new SQA Level 3 Award in ECS & Radar for Code Vessels. The Award is in 2 parts and can either to studied together over 5 days or individually.

Operate Non ECDIS Electronic Chart Systems
Pre-requisites: Previous navigational experience to Day Skipper standard. Previous seagoing experience and seatime fulfilling MCA’s requirements for Commercial Vessels.
Duration: 2 1/2 days including some practical vessel based training
Course content: Use of Electronic chart systems, interpreting information presented, understanding the capability of Electronic Chart Systems and the dangers of over reliance as well as the rules regarding the use

Use of Radar for safe navigation and collision avoidance on domestic and code vessels
Pre-requisites
: Previous navigational experience to Day Skipper standard. Previous seagoing experience and seatime fulfilling MCA’s requirements for Commercial Vessels.
Duration: 2 1/2 days
Course content: Understanding the regulations and guidance on the use of radar found on Domestic and Code vessels. The principles of operation, including limitations, of radar found on Domestic and Code vessels.  Be able to set up a radar system for operational and operate radar for navigation, including collision avoidance.
