The OLB contains important records about the vessel and how it is being run, including:

  •  Lists of crew
  • Musters, Boat & Fire Drills, Training, Inspection of LSA & FFE;
  • Tests of Steering Gear;
  • Records of Food and Water
  • Distress Messages received;
  • Inspections of Accommodation, Food & Water;
  • Accidents & Incidents
  • Disciplinary matters;
  • Crew complaints;
  • Appointment of Safety Officials.

When the logbook is full, or after 6 months, it should be sent to the Registry of Seamen. It then creates a record of:
the vessel
the occurrences onboard
– the crew who sailed onboard over that time
